Tariq Bin Raza completed his education and training in Civil Engineering from Jamia Millia, New Delhi. He joined the Engineering wing of the armed forces and served in North East India. After his stint with the armed forces, he joined Delhi Development Authority and worked for more than 32 years. He retired in 2008 from the DDA.
A keen sportsman, he had a particular interest in Table Tennis and Cricket. Tariq Captained Jamia Rural Engineering Institute and was a member of Jamia Millia University Cricket Team from 1966 t0 69.
Tariq has a deep interest in arts, culture, heritage and in particular, music. A disciple of Ustad Hilal Ahmad Khan Saheb of Delhi Gharana, he learned music, specifically Ghazals and as an amateur Ghazal singer enthralled his audiences primarily, in personal and private gatherings. Ghazals continue to be his heart and soul. He loves to travel and has travelled extensively in India. Heritage buildings; their architecture, design and restoration, have always been his primary interest during these travels. He still enjoys flying kites during the rare moments of his busy life and finds it relaxing.
His varied and vast experience, technical knowledge and skills, ingenuity, resourcefulness and organizational abilities combined with his love and interest for art, culture and music is distinctly noticeable not only in the delicate and exquisite art work and finer details of “Shikwa Havelis” but also in their imposing structures.
